external-drive-formatting-problem

Hello, I have formatted my 1TB external hard drive to a 32GB recovery drive. And I tried to format back to 1TB NTFS drive. But it only allows me to 32GB only. So how do I get back my 1TB?. I have tried in windows 7 but still with same result.

Solution :

Try to format the drive on a different computer and check if it helps.

Step 1:
Run check disk on the external drive. Follow these steps:

1. Right click on external hard drive.
2. Click on properties.
3. Now click the Tools menu and then click on check now.
4. Select the external drive.
5. Check options "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".
6. Click on check now.
Important: While performing check disk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when check disk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

Step 2:
I would suggest you to download and run the latest Microsoft Safety Scanner on your computer and check if it helps:

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Step 3:
Try to format it from Disk Management and check if it helps.
a) Right click on bottom left corner of the desktop and select Disk Management.
b) Right click on External Hard drive and select format.
c) If you are not able to format select delete volume.
d) After deleting Right click on Unallocated and select New Simple Volume.
e) Follow the onscreen instruction to create an New Volume.
